ASE SAMPLE PROJECT

DEFINE BASE MAP CONTROL

PROCEDURE

        (1)        Start Civil 3D or AutoCAD[01]

        (2)        Open “C:\AseSampleProject\Drawings\SiteLayout.dwg”

        (3)        From the ASE ribbon, select [Tools] → [Settings & Initialization] → [Data Path - Set]

        (4)        Browse to and select the folder “C:\AseSampleProject\Data\AseDataTraining”

        (5)        From the ASE ribbon, select [Tools] → [Design Support] → [BMC - Define]

        (6)        Adjust control layers as needed in the Base Map Control selection dialog

        (7)        Press “OK” to define the BMC data

        (8)        An AutoCAD message will be displayed informing you that ASE Civil will only define BMC using lines and arcs and that all polylines were exploded. Since the BMC data has now been written to the ASE data folder, the process may be undone or you may exit the drawing without saving the changes to preserve the polylines.

        (9)        Press “OK” to close the AutoCAD Message dialog.

      (10)       Exit the drawing.

MAINTENANCE

ASE Civil’s Base Map Control data is static. When changes occur in any of the drawings that were used to define the BMC data, reflecting those changes in ASE output and calculations requires redefinition of the Base Map Control data with the procedure previously used.

ADVANCED CONCEPTS

Once Base Map Control data has been created in a project, the entities can be imported into any drawing attached to the ASE data folder. Each system is imported onto a proprietary layer for logical grouping and organization.

Systems may be imported individually or in any combination.

Transitions are identified by ASE (Knuckles and cul-de-sacs) automatically and may also be imported as independent elements separate from the layered control systems.

Civil 3D is not required for this procedure, so “vanilla” AutoCAD may be used if so desired.
